Overcoming Panic Attacks – How You Can Overcome Anxiety and Panic The Way I Did

It’s the same story with all of us suffering from panic attacks symptoms. We suffer, we think that the ideal way of overcoming panic attacks should be to visit a physician. We do, and the physician does one of the following:

Prescribe us some panic attack treatment drugs that make us dizzy, and above all, doesn’t help to cure our anxiety attacks. Tell us that “it’s all inside our heads” and recommend us some self relaxation techniques that are meant to distract the symptoms, not to cure our anxiety attacks.

I have been there. I was doing those while this whole problem was eating my life away; I was doing those while I was unable to get out of my house, I was on the verge of losing my job, my wife, my children, my family and my life. No, I didn’t want to learn how to cope with panic attacks. I wanted to learn how to get rid of panic attacks absolutely.

And I did that. I was taught how to overcome anxiety and panic disorder. And I was able to accomplish this – overcoming panic attacks. Naturally, it wasn’t thanks to any “coping” techniques – it was thanks to a technique that was meant to go head to head with the fear and kill it.

The right way of treating panic disorder is to face your fear. Picture yourself over an edge right now – anxiety and panic are pushing you further to the edge. The techniques for coping with anxiety aren’t working and it becomes worse day per day. You are afraid of having another panic attack. This fear itself raises your stress and anxiety, and makes a panic attack likely. So, the panic attack can feed on itself to create an ever-growing cycle of fear.

You must break this cycle of fear by wanting to have a panic attack. I know it sounds scary, but this is how you can cure your anxiety disorder.

Remember that analogy to you being pushed to the edge? Jump. Jump from the cliff yourself, into your fears and anxiety. It sounds scary, but the medical fact is that panic attacks are absolutely safe. There can come no harm to you by having one. Yes, it feels horrible and your senses are heightened, but medically, there is no harm done. Jump there, knowing that there can come no harm to you.

And you’ll see for yourself that the fall becomes a three inch drop. You are safe. You’ve always been safe.

Here my blog in which I tell of my success in overcoming panic attacks and how I treated anxiety disorder!

The time is here and I am ready! At least for part time work. I am documenting my job search.

Helping Your Dog To Overcome Separation Anxiety

Posted by admin on Thursday, 2 September, 2010

Helping Your Dog To Overcome Separation Anxiety

It is estimated that around 10% of dogs suffer from an exaggerated negative reaction to being left alone. This fearful response to being left alone is referred to as separation anxiety. We are not entirely sure as to why exactly separation anxiety occurs, but it does seem there’s no single cause for it.

Both puppies and older dogs can suffer from separation anxiety. In the case of puppies, it is natural that any young animal should become fearful when left alone, however, in the majority of cases the problem rights itself over time. It is also recommended certain breeds are predisposed to separation anxiety, for example, German Shepherds, Spaniels, and Shih Tzu. Dogs that are separated from their moms prematurely or rescued dogs,’ are also much more prone to suffer from separation anxiety, as are dogs that have nervous dispositions.

Changes of routine, for example a new job that causes you to be out of the house a lot, a house move, or the dog having a frightening experience when you’ve been out of the house can also trigger separation anxiety.

A further cause of separation anxiety could be due to species predisposition; dogs are highly social animals that rely on a ‘pack’ system of living, for safety, security, and companionship etc. Wild dogs and wolves for example, use this hierarchical system of living extremely effectively, however, one of the main differences between wild packs of dogs or wolves and our domesticated dogs, is wild packs remain together for more of the time, whereas, the relationship between humans and domestic dogs is being constantly broken and re-established, due to our continuous comings and goings.

I think one of the main intensifiers of separation anxiety is owner behaviour. Often this negative behaviour is reinforced unwittingly, for example, the owner may coddle the dog when it shows signs of distress and anxiety, as the owner prepares to leave the house. Usual behaviours the owner performs before leaving the house, such as putting on shoes and coat and getting the automobile keys etc, become to act as triggers for anxious or fearful behaviour in the dog.

The types of behaviour your dog displays can tell you right away if he suffers with separation anxiety. They include, barking excessively, crying, whining, or howling. He may follow you closely when you’re preparing to leave the house, jumping on you to get your attention. When you’ve left the house his behaviour will intensify, he may start salivating, pacing up and down, and bark constantly. In some cases the dog may urinate or defecate around the house, he may also chew or destroy things around the house. In severe cases the dog can become self destructive, for example biting out his fur.

If you’ve an older dog or puppy who suffers with separation anxiety, he can be helped, however, this may take some, and you will need to take gradual steps when retraining him. You’ll need to address a number of issues, when helping your dog, so let us take a bathroomk at these now.

Your goal here is for you to be able to leave your dog alone at home, and for him to be comfortable with this. So, the first thing you need to do is examine the pack structure in your home. Do you offer your dog strong leadership? Strong and confident leadership is important to your dog, in fact he’ll quite naturally follow you, and have confidence in what your require of him, if you lead with assurance.

In order to develop your leadership abilities, teach your dog basic obedience exercises, like sit, down, and stay. If your dog has a tendency to follow you around the house or jumps on you demanding constant attention then, put a stop his unwanted behaviour by ignoring it. Be ready with some food treats to reward your dog’s behaviour when he’s calm, but only when he’s absolutely calm. What you’re trying to do here is to teach your dog that everything he gets from you has to be earned, in this way you communicate to him you’re the leader of your pack.

Next, try going into different rooms in the house and closing the door behind you, so your dog can’t follow you. Initially, do this for one or two seconds and build up very gradually. In this way you start to change your dog’s feelings towards you leaving him alone.

The next thing to tackle will be your leaving routines. To help break the negative associations your dog has built around you getting ready to leave the house. Try putting your shoes on and sitting back down, or photoking your keys up and not going anywhere at all, or putting your coat on and wearing it around the house for a while.

When your dog is relaxed with this, it’s time to actually leave the house. Again, initially you will only be going out for seconds and building up gradually. If you drive a automobile, your dog may have developed the sound of it moving away into a trigger, so turning the engine on, and then of and swiftly re-enter the house, again, you can build this up to moving part way up the street, and driving around the block etc.

The key points to remember are before leaving and when re-entering the house act as calm as possible. By showing your dog it’s no big deal to you coming and going, he’ll start to react in the same way. Don’t talk or pet your dog before you leave the house, and when re-entering for at least 10 minutes or so. Settle yourself down first, and go about your usual business, and wait for your dog to become absolutely calm before quietly calling him over and gently petting him. When you call him, if he shows any excited behaviour at all, then ignore him again until he becomes calm, and then try calling him quietly to you again, if he responds peacefully, then pet him, and tell him how much of a good dog he’s, but remember do so as coolly as possible.

If you leave your dog alone for long periods when you’re still retraining him, this will weaken all the good work you’ve done, so do try to have someone bathroomk after him in the early stages when you’re not at home.

Some dogs are more relaxed when they are confined, so a dog or puppy crate may be helpful, but please make sure your dog or puppy has been introduced to it correctly, to be sure it does not cause him further distress. Once he’s used to his little den, you can leave him inside it with some chew toys, especially the type you can stuff with food and treats, as this will help keep him occupied when you’re out of the house.

Finally, never, punish your dog or puppy for his behaviour, as this isn’t only absolutely unfair to him, but will only help to intensify his problems. Be kind, calm, and consistent when helping your dog, and given time, he’ll overcome his problem of separation anxiety.

I have been training dogs since the late 1980’s. I now live in France, where I continue to train dogs, and also write about dog behaviour, automobilee, and training related topics. How To Overcome Depression Through Faith

How To Overcome Depression Through Faith

How To Overcome Depression Through Faith

Let’s face it, we all get depressed at times, it is only being human. However, as with all things, when it becomes excessive, depression, characterized by erratic mood swings, loss of interest in hobbies and a generally sad demeanor is very detrimental to our overall health.

As damaging as it is to our general well being, it is quite alarming that most of us do suffer from this ailment and it is even more frightening that many people have been diagnosed as being clinically depressed. Is there hope? Most of us might ask.

Yes, there’s.

It is summed up in one word; Faith.

And what’s Faith?

Well, According to Heb 11. 1; “It is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen”, in lay man’s terms, it is believing in what you can’t necessarily see, feel or touch but knowing that it is there and will be beneficial for you.

Take for example; remember when you may have fallen of your bike as a kid and after your mom nursed the bruise she tells you “let me kiss it so the pain goes away…”?

Well as adults, we know that didn’t necessarily make the injureding stop…per se, but in being told that, as children we automatically believed “Well, if mommy says it’ll go away by kissing it, then I believe it will…” The trick is the second part of that thought is what made it happen! Believing that what mom said she’d bring about will happen!

Evidently, children in their innocence and supposed naïveté really are the group of humans who possess the most natural ability to abide by faith. We all had this gift at some point but, well, as we age and experience trying times in our lives, sadly the magic dissipates, leaving room for such negative forces as depression, doubt, self-hatred, you name it.

It’s no wonder Jesus said “To enter the Kingdom of heaven, ye must be like little children…”

The same Man went on to say in Luke 17:20-21: “The kingdom of Heaven is within you”

Wow…what a sayment!

The author of “The Power of Positive Thinking” Dr. Norman Vincent Peale analyzed this verse and says that it means “We as humans, the images of God, have everything within us to make our worlds and lives better and all we want it to be!” Hey, it’s no error that Psalm 82:6 says: “For ye are gods…”

Now as powerful as faith is and as necessary as it is to overcoming depression, it needs to be exercised wisely to be strengthened.

Here are some tips:

1. Always act care about it is impossible to fail, believe that it always works.

2. Pre-condition your mind to success in all things.

3. Try, really try! Think, really think! Believe, really believe!

You are what you’re and will be where you want to be based on your thoughts.

Admittedly, it may not always be simple, but that’s what life is all about and one comforting fact is God has promised in His word, 1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation (problem) has overtaken you except such as is general to man; but God is faithful, who won’t grant you to be tempted (tested) beyond what you’re able, but with the temptation (problem) will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Think on that, strengthen your faith with the tips above and you too will soon be overcoming depression.

How to Overcome Stress, Stop Anxiety and Panic Attacks

How to Overcome Stress, Stop Anxiety and Panic Attacks

We are all living in a very hectic world these days; it feels like the time is ticking away faster and faster. Works and family responsibilities are overwhelming us at times. Hence, it’s no surprise that stress and anxiety creep in our lives. Nobody could eliminate stress absolutely; what we could do however, is learn to control and manage stress before it takes control of our lives.

Stress and anxiety are the major cause of panic attacks. If not dealt with, it can have a devastating effect on our life. Especially for people with A-type personalities, the perfectionism they seek in everything they do never quite measures up to their anticipateations. Please comprehend that no one is perfect; humans are all imperfect living in an imperfect world. Don’t stress it out and make yourself crazy, just take it all in your stride.

There are many different ways to deal with stress; just some easy exercises can help stop the onslaught of stress. For example, just focus on breathing properly can take away the anxiety from your mind and bring you back to a calm state. Anytime when you feel stress, put your left hand on your stomach and start to breathe deeply and slowly; you should feel that your stomach expands when you breathe in air; that’s the right way to breathe.

Going outside for some fresh air can also help. Walking or running for 20 minutes can release endorphins which help relieve stress. Listening to classical music also helps as it lowers the blood pressure, and brings calm within.

Sometimes, however, stress reveals itself in other ways. Fear, feelings of presssure, inability to focus and palpitations; all these are symptoms of stress that can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, and the fright or flight syndrome.

For example, you’re fearful when talking in front of a group of people; anxious when a plane’s taking off; nervous during your wedding day, etc. There’s really no absolute cure for fear and anxiety. To overcome it, you’ll have to face your fear; admit that you’re fearful, seek to comprehend it, and do the right thing anyway. Develop faith that you’ll eventually conquer your fear and anxiety.

If stress is getting you down, analyze the cause. Determine the origin, talk to a friend or discuss it with a professional or a loved one. Stress, if not acted upon, can cause serious health problems. Learn to live and cope with it at all costs, if you can.

Remember that there is no such thing as “stress-free” life as stress is always around us; unless of course if we’re already dead. As long as we’re still breathing, we’re susceptible to stress and anxiety. What we can do however, is to develop a “stress-proof” life. There are several successful self-help techniques you can learn to stop anxiety and panic attacks on its track.

Overcome Bulimia – The Strategy to Change Your Focus

Posted by admin on Thursday, 26 August, 2010

Overcome Bulimia – The Strategy to Change Your Focus

From what I can see the main problem with all bulimics is their focus. Where is their focus? – On food and binging-purging. Bulimics are always busy thinking about what they’re going to binge on, how they’re going to get the food, what time they’re going to start etc.

The problem is, if you spend all your time focusing on something the universe always gives you what you focus on, always. So what the bulimic gets is more of the same; thoughts about food to the point it replaces all other useful thoughts. Instead of thinking about friendship and interacting with people and feeling -good thoughts they’re stuck in a black hole they can’t get out of.

The No 1 task for a bulimic at this stage is to work on her/his mental focus. I comprehend bulimics may have physical problems with their body (like tiredness, muscle aches, heart beating etc) stopping them from doing many thinks but they won’t have to spend a lot of physical effort on changing their focus.

They just should accept the fact that their mind is actually lying to them when it makes them think and feel that they’re fat, useless, and have no future. They believe the only thing that they’ve is food as a remedy to make them feel better. It is their brain playing tricks on them and they believe it.

Bulimics have to teach themselves to focus on other things than food and try to re-train themselves to get satisfaction from those other things. As an example becoming embraced in a hobby or doing studies, interesting job and the like will go a long way to helping them.

Some will say that this is easier to say than do, but bulimics taught themselves to focus on food easily enough so they can just as easily focus on something else that’s good for them, it is all just perception.

The improvement in their focus won’t happen overnight as they didn’t get to where they’re now overnight didn’t they? They’ve to start at the startning and take baby steps one at a time.

Confucius sayd “That even the longest journey starts with a single step” so this is what they’ve to do, a single step then another single step and so on and so on.

To make this first baby step towards overcoming bulimia a sufferer should first of all start by replacing her/his bulimic thoughts with other good thoughts.

For example, when someone starts thinking about preparing for a binge (what she’s going to binge on, how it should be cooked etc) try to stop the thoughts immediately and think about something else. For example what movie I want see, or what course I want to do or what job promotion I want to get, what kind of dress I want to purchase and the like to break the moment. (depends on the person). It will take effort at first but the more one does it the easier it becomes.

The other technique which helps to change focus is making a dream board. Take a piece of cardboard (at least 30cm x 50cm), old magazines and glue stick. Bathroomk through magazines and find pics which matched what you want to have in life or what you want to become. Take the scissors and cut out these pics you’ve chosen and stick them on the cardboard (the more the better). The main point here is that picture should match your wishes and desires.

When you fill out the cardboard with the pics (and maybe some slogans and sayings that inspire you) put this cardboard up on the wall where you can see it all the time.

Everyday spend some time bathroomking at your cardboard and thinking about what you like or would like to become.

And every time you start dreaming about binging – go and bathroomk at your true wishes and desires on the cardboard and think that every binge -purge is taking you away from the things you really want to achieve and want to become.

Think that it is your bulimia that wants you to binge and the bulimia is lying to you again and again about your feelings and that the bulimia is your enemy.

In reality it boils down to which side you will take: yours that support your wishes and desires, or the bulimia’s that supports the binging-purging and takes you away from the good things you want in life.

To conclude, changing mental focus is the main and most important thing to overcome bulimia. If a bulimic does not change her/his focus it will never be possible for them to become a healthy person ever again.

How Do I Stop Panic Attacks? 3 Tips to Overcome Physical Symptoms of Panic Attacks

In this article I want to describe some of the physical aspects of panic attacks, as well as what happens in your body. I’ll also propose strategies to better deal those physical symptoms, which should help you with getting rid of panic attacks.

In another article I wrote that panic attacks are sudden and intensely frightening experiences that can give you the feeling that you’re going mad, losing control, or even that you’ve a heart attack and might die. Some of the most common physical symptoms of panic attacks are: a pounding heart, chest pains, breathlessness, a choking feeling, dizziness, or a pounding head. There are more, but do you recognise those?

You will undoubtedly have heard of the fight-flight response, your body’s “internal alarm system”, when your body prepares itself to either fight or run from a threatening situation, e.g. when you hear a strange noise at night in your house. What happens in your body?

Well, you might need to run or fight so your muscles need more oxygen. You breathe faster, which can lead to breathlessness through over-breathing, or hyperventilation. This can cause dizziness, as well as a feeling of choking. Your heart beats and pumps faster to get the blood (with oxygen!) faster around your body. Your chest injureds as your chest muscles are tight, ready to fight if needed. Your head might be pounding too, as there’s an increased pressure of blood flowing through your body for extra energy.

Can you see how many of those physical symptoms are in fact totally normal reactions of your internal alarm system? And they’re necessary if there’s a real threat to face. And there’s one the key issues in panic attacks: the alarm system is very sensitive and goes off when there’s no real threat, but just a hint (e.g. a thought) of it, like a hyper-sensitive smoke alarm.

For now, I would like to mention three things you can try and practice, which should make it easier for you to cope with those symptoms as they develop.

1. Try above all to realize fully that the symptoms are normal and harmless.

2. Learn to relax. Relaxation can involve reading, or having a cup of tea etc. But this might not be enough to decrease muscle tension. Learn relaxation techniques, e.g. use relaxation tapes (step-by-step approach to relax all your muscles: ask your physician), or try yoga. Less tension means less chance of panic.

3. Learn controlled breathing. Breathe in slowly, filling your lungs as if filling a bottle with water, counting “1…2…3…4″. Then breathe out through your nose, emptying the bottle as it were. Calmly. Practice this when feeling ok, and use it when the anxiety starts.

I bathroomk forward to sharing more information on panic attacks soon. But if you would like to immediately discover a very effective method to solve panic attacks fast, then click here now: How Do You Get Rid Of Anxiety?
